River View Park Tavern 2019

Do you remember Saturday 8th June 2019? Yes, it was that day when it seemed as if the rain would never stop. And it was also the day when Soul Junction played for the first time in Barnard Castle, County Durham.

We drove past hundreds of horses and bow tops braving the downpour at Appleby Horse Fair, and over a very soggy Stainmore, and received a very warm welcome from Karen and her staff at the newly-refurbished River View Tavern, which is a superb venue in an idyllic setting on the banks of the River Tees. The Tavern has been recently refurbished and looks great.

We enjoyed meeting a fellow brass player from the NASUWT band - and thank you for rearranging your babysitting at the last minute so you could stay all night! We also met friends Colin and Sue from Skelton, which was a nice surprise. There was a really good atmosphere in the pub, and lots of dancing badges awarded. It was lovely to receive so many nice comments from the audience, and lots of people came up for a chat at the end.

Highlights of the evening:

‘River Deep Mountain High’ got major whoops.

‘Time is Tight’ - ‘haven’t heard that for years and I love it’.

Thank you to Karen and everyone at River View!
