Soul Junction Gig Art

Our quirky gig posters are designed by band member Rebekah Gall. Rebekah studied Fine Art at Edinburgh University alongside her degree in German and Linguistics, and has always loved drawing and painting, particularly in water colours, ink, and soft pastels. She tailors each poster to the gig, so you‘ll spot local landmarks, references to famous artists, little jokes and plays on words in her art. Sometimes you’ll spot a hidden SJ logo, or a reference to a soul song. Her own favourite posters include Maryport Blues, with the Maryport harbour cottages reflected in a shiny fish plaque on the aquarium wall, and Big Burns Supper, in the style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, with an SJ twist on a famous Burns poem.
Rebekah is a West Cumbrian and one of her favourite artists is Percy Kelly, who lived in Allonby, and painted the industrial towns and villages of the Cumbrian coast, as well as his jewel-like illuminated letters to friends. Rebekah tried to paint in his style for the Workington Decades festival and the 2022 Kendal wedding.
